An old colleague reached out to me yesterday asking what I thought about Chili Piper, a tool that routes leads to sales reps automatically. (It does more than that, but that was really the only feature he was looking for)
Years ago I actually built something almost identical. Back then, I was at a bootstrapped startup paying $560/month for 5 reps to do simple lead routing via Chili Piper.
I thought that was way too expensive. So a few friends of mine, including a developer, built our own version, called Activebook.
It took 6 months to build. I wireframed, he coded, we sold it to about 10 companies before I moved on.
This time, no developer. No months. Just me, Solo, Claude, and about 15 minutes.
I built a simple form and some redirect logic behind it. Same core idea as Chili Piper, same core idea as what we spent months building years ago.
I could definitely make this build more complex, but what I was trying to prove is something that used to take 6 months and three people now takes 15 minutes.
Marketers don't need to keep paying hundreds of dollars a month, or waiting on engineering time, for things this simple. You can just build it.
I'm not doing it the "right" way, and I say that a lot in the video. But I'm doing it, and that's kind of the whole point.
